HTML, The Basic

I began designing webpage when I was in college, that was year 1999. Wayback then, there are only few softwares available for it. And I started with the basic, using NOTEPAD.

Nowadays, lots of website design software is available in the market like DREAMWEAVER, which I like most.

HTML stands for Hyper Text Markup Language. It’s the dominant language used in building a website. It’s the programming codes for the internet.

If you are a beginner, you don’t need to be afraid to learn all these codes. I will even suggest you not to focus much on this HTML topic. What I want you to know is to learn the basic, know how it works and see how does it look like. In the process, you will need this knowledge to make some amendments on your site template. There are lots of free quality templates available for download in the internet, why bother design your own. Just modify it and viola, you now have your site. Don’t forget to follow what is stated on the free license agreement.

Now let’s open NOTEPAD and type below text on it.

Then save the file and name it “sample.html”. Close NOTEPAD and double click the file you saved. It will be opened in your internet explorer or any default browser.

This is a basic sample of an HTML codes. There are lots of codes to use, but you dont need to memorize all of them. Now let’s review the codes we used on our example…

All websites have these codes… All the codes must have <> on it. And to close the code, they have to use in the end. Meaning all the text inside it are part of that code..

HTML—initialize your page
HEAD—header part of the page
TITLE–title of your page that will be displayed on top of browser
BODY—contents of your page.

So the above example page will display the word “Hello World! Welcome Batanggenyo” content on your browser.
