There are lots of ways promoting your site using different means online. As we all know, internet has become a virtual place for millions of people to interact. And the best way to reach those internet users is to go to the place or use the tool that they are using.

1. Instant Messaging. Who else don’t have any Yahoo, AOL, Google or Hotmail account? Almost everyone has and they use this tool for chatting and connecting with the people they know. For your friends and relatives, you can just send them the link of your website and ask them to visit it. Since they know you, for sure they will visit your site. For website designing, I suggest and highly recommend this software, Adobe Dreamweaver. Initially it was under Macromedia then later purchased by Adobe Systems. This softwares makes website designing very easy with its WYSIWYG mode. For beginners, this software might be confusing but I suggest you only learn the basic. Nevermind those advance function, you can learn that afterwards.

1. Define your topic to talk about and stick to it. It is very important to be sure of what topic your blog is all about. If you want to have a music blog, then you will post articles related to music. Don’t ever post something about IT stuff, or else you’ll end up ruining your blog. Be specific with your blog.

2. Use clean and nice template. First impressions last, and these impressions depends on your template. There are lots of free templates online, try to choose something that best suits your blog. Everyone have different taste, but try to choose something that you think most of your readers will like.

3.Post something that you as sure about. Blogging comes from your own opinion, not from others. If you are not sure of what you are posting, don’t ever do it. Blogging is an extension of what you are and what you think. Post topics that you are confident to share with others.

4. Post regularly. If you want to build avid readers, post regularly. Online readers, once you gain their trust will keep coming back to you site. What if there’s nothing new, do you think they will come back again? Just keep blogging.

5. Use plugins. Plugins are part of your blog that displays links, previous post, top post, top comments, ads, etc. These part can caught the attention of the readers and make them stay to your blog for a while. But then, you need to arrange this plugins so it won’t be annoying.

6. Promote your blog. Blogging is fun if you have readers. So after you setup your blog, you need to promote it. There are lots of money that we can generate from the internet if we only knew how to make money. But sad to say, only few people in the world is making big out of it. For most, they don’t even know how to do it. Others are even struggling how to start from scratch. Now I’m going to show you where and how to start.

First, try to define what site you want to make. The purpose, the audience and the contents that you want to put. Online readers are more inclined to visit sites that can give them something whether its information or other free stuff. If you want to make money out of it, try to move out from your personal agenda and try to discuss something else. Try to project your target audience, their location, age and gender. This will help you choose what platform to use for your site. If you want to have a blog, you can choose Wordpress. If you want to create online community, you can use Forum or Social networking platform. Most of them are free and very easy to implement. Once you are ready for your site ideas, you can now move to the next stage.

Domain name. It is the address that online users need to type on their web browser to visit your site. This may cost you few bucks depending on the domain name you want to use. Promote your site. You need online audience to visit on your site. The more, the better. Once you setup your site, you need to inform other’s that it exist or they may not know it exist at all. There are lots of way how to promote it. The most common one is thru the use of Social networking site like Facebook and Twitter. From there, you can inform your friends to visit your site. If you are done with your friends, you can move to other crowds. Joining forums, visiting other sites and leaving comments are some ways that you can use. It’s like leaving your tracks everywhere that people next to you will follow.

Monetize your site. This is the last part I recommend you to do after you follow the above steps. If everything goes well, then you should move on to the best part, monetizing your site. You need to learn how to turn those online audiences to a revenue stream. There are several ways to do it, and the most common way is thru Google Adsense. First login to your BLOGGER account and look for the blog that you will edit. Click LAYOUT below it and you will be brought to your blog settings page. Under LAYOUT, click PICK NEW TEMrPLATE. Listed there are the only templates available in BLOGGER for you to use. Fortunately, lots of FREE templates available on the internet. Let’s use GOOGLE and search for the word “free blogger templates.” Visit the top sites listed and start browsing for your desired templates. Look for DOWNLOAD link and save it to your computer. Mostly its on ZIP format, try to unzip it first. Inside it, you only need the XML file.

Go back to your BLOGGER account and click EDIT HTML on the menu. There you will see BROWrSE button, look for your XML file then click it. After the successful upload, you can now view your BLOG.

I guess this are all the basic softwares that you must have. It’s the same software installed in my computer right now while pursuing my online passion.

To start with blogging, you need to have an email account. I suggest you apply one email address in GMAIL.

Before you begin blogging, you need to identify first what is your blog all about. It should be something that you want to share with other people like your photos, stories, comments, essays or just another daily diary. Then you have to identify your target audience, whether your blog is for your eyes only, for your circle of friends, family or for the whole world to see. If you are done thinking for a blog topic, let’s proceed to the next step.

There lots of websites offering for blogs. The best for me is BLOGGER which will be the center of our tutorial. Let’s go to BLOGGER site and create a blog. Click the CREATE A BLOG button to continue.

On the next step below, we need to create a GOOGLE account to access some resources we will need in blogging. Fill up the form and click CONTINUE button on the bottom part.

Next part will be to name your blog. There are lots of existing blogs out there so be sure to check the availability of your desired blog address. For a tip, choose a blog address that best describes your blog. Once settled, click CONTINUE to proceed.

The last part of our BLOGGER registration will be the choosing of the desired layout. It will be the design of your blog so you choose what is best for you. You will find only few and simple designs available but don’t worry. Later I will guide you where to get good and nice blogger templates. In the meantime, choose any of the listed design and click CONTINUE to finish our registration.

Now let’s familiarize with the BLOGGER settings. There are four tabs on top of the page mainly POSTING, SETTINGS, LAYOUT and VIEW BLOG.

Under POSTING tab, you can create and edit your posts. Be sure to put a good title on it to attract more readers. Labels is also important, it will describe what your article is all about. Once you are done, click PUBLISH POST and you can see your finish blog.

Under SETTINGS tab, there are lots of options to choose from. For beginners, this is quite complicated. I suggest that if you are not familiar with it, leave it on default settings. Do some of the tweaking once you are familiar with BLOGGER.

LAYOUT tab handles the way your blog will look in terms of arrangement and contents to display. Page Elements section will be very useful to you so be familiar with it. Gadget is a part of your blog where you customize and add what you want aside from your blog post. Here you can put pictures, blog links, adsense and other useful blog tools that you will know as you keep on blogging. The rest of the options can be clearly understood.

Congratulations! You now have a blog. Share it with your friends and the rest of the world.

Most blogs are focused on specific topic. Like this blog, I focus on giving free internet tutorial for my readers.

Generally speaking (although there are exceptions), blogs tend to have a few things in common:

* A main content area with articles listed chronologically, newest on top. Often, the articles are organized into categories.
* An archive of older articles.
* A way for people to leave comments about the articles.
* A list of links to other related sites, sometimes called a “blogroll”.
* One or more “feeds” like RSS, Atom or RDF files.

Blogging is free and easy to setup. Watch out for my future article, which I will discuss how to setup a blog.

But now, this is my first blog on this new site. I am a blogger, and have been blogging for more than 3 years now….quite a newbie actually. I own lots of blog sites, but unfortunately I don’t have enough time to maintain them all. Thus, leaving only my main blog updated… www.batanggenyo.net.

At first, I do blogging as a hobby. I blog different things, mostly IT stuff. My first ever blogsite is http://rlmacalintal.blogspot.com which I never maintain now. But then, this is a PR3 blog already…so I’m planning to revive it again when I have ample spare time. During that time, I’m looking for alternate source of income online, so I tried putting Google Adsense on my blog. Only few people know my blog exist so it didn’t get that much traffic and revenue so my eagerness fell down. That was way back in 2006, when I was in Taiwan.

In early part of 2008, I’m already in Singapore, when I decided to create another blog about a guide on how to work in singapore. It’s still active on this link http://howtoworkinsingapore.blogspot.com. That was a big break for me. I noticed that lots of people are visiting the site, and so my Google revenue is increasing. From there, I decided to blog as a part time income. I created lots of blogs then I started buying my own domain and web hosts. Until now, blogging is still part of my part time job.
